View full sources list →How SafeMomma started
I'm Charlie — a software developer. My mom is a clinician, and she kept telling me the same thing: her patients were always asking which medications they could and couldn't take during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The answers existed, but they were scattered across databases, papers, and guidelines that weren't built for a quick, clear look-up. I wanted to design something she could actually use — so I built SafeMomma for her.
She liked it. A lot of the doctors she works with liked it too. Now I'm bringing it to consumers: pregnant and breastfeeding moms who deserve the same clarity between appointments.

Questions
Is SafeMomma a replacement for medical advice?+
No. SafeMomma is an information resource, not a medical service. It's meant to help you have informed conversations with your healthcare provider — not replace them.
Where does your information come from?+
We compile information from established medical databases (like LactMed and MotherToBaby), peer-reviewed research, and clinical guidelines. Every piece of information links to its source.
How many items are in your database?+
Currently 243 medications, herbs, supplements, and everyday exposures. We add more based on user requests.
What does 'founding member' mean?+
The first 50 moms get free access to current features forever, plus early access and a say as we build.
Is there an app?+
An iOS app is on the way. For now, use the website to try samples, create an account, and join as a founding mom.
I'm a clinician. Can I use SafeMomma?+
Yes. Clinicians can create a free account. SafeMomma is built so you and your patients can look at the same sourced information — we don't issue patient access codes from clinician accounts.
